A call to stop the war in Gaza and to diminish its psychological consequences

A request from the Iranian Psychological Association to responsible world organizations

Nowadays, at the peak of the Eloquence of civilization and among the wonderful scientific and cultural advances, unfortunately, we are witnessing war and violence in all the corners of the world.
‏The flames of the war in the Gaza Strip and the killing and wounding of thousands of people, becoming homeless of tens of thousands of others, the extensive destruction of infrastructure and mental distresses for people, especially children and women, are the most painful of all.
‏    The Iranian Psychological Association, while sympathizing with the victims of the Gaza Strip, expresses its great sorrow and concern over this man-made calamity and its psycho-social consequences. We are all trees in the same garden, war destroys the garden. War does not only bring suffering, pain and nothingness, but its traumatic and negative effects on people’s mental health may continue for years. Not only all of the people exposed to war, especially children and women, but also people all over the world who are exposed to the news of war, experience the unfortunate consequences of psychological trauma, including anxiety disorders, depression, Post-Traumatic Stress (PTSD) and other mental disorders.
The Iranian Psychological Association requests The World Organizations to strive to end the war and ensure the safety, security provision and well-being of children, women and all residents of Gaza who are exposed to the psychological consequences of the war. It also asks the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Associations of Psychology and Psychiatry, and the World Organizations related to mental health, as well as the Red Cross, to provide the necessary psychological and social support for these people and to consider the need for immediate interventions.
